The BB creams in this chart represent only the beginning of a countless number of brands and creams.  Korean manufacturers always come out with new products so there’s no way we could have listed everything.  However, we included many exceptional products and bestsellers at a wide price range.

Most of the products in the chart we feel meet the essential requirements of an excellent BB cream. Most also have protection against sun rays which are common in all BB creams, but you could definitely find ones without.

What is a BB Cream?

In Korea, the BB cream is a cosmetic product often hailed as “the secret of Korean actresses”.

Known as “Blemish Balm” (or “Beauty Balm” in North America), the BB cream is an all-in-one facial skin care product that combines a number of different products that you are already using (moisturizer, primer, and foundation) into one product.

It is sometimes used as an alternative to foundation, and offers skin whitening effects as well as SPF protection. The product is great at covering up facial blemishes such as acne, browning, and sun spots, and sometimes it also has anti-wrinkle, anti-inflammatory, and soothing effects.

It truly is an all-in-one cosmetic product that a woman must have.

Why Korean BB Creams Are The Best

BB Creams were all the hype in Korea way back in the 1990s. Only recently have they been gaining popularity in North America. BB Cream was originally invented by the Germans for patients who have had laser skin treatment as a recovery method to fade scarring and reduce redness. Koreans caught on and started using this technique for creating that natural skin look.

In Korea BB Creams are endorsed by celebrities. Because of this, Korean cosmetic companies have been developing and perfecting their products.

It’s common to find Korean discussions, forums, and message boards all over the internet that talk about Korean brands. Besides, how else do you think the beautiful Korean celebrities on TV achieve their perfect skin?!

How to Choose a BB Cream That Suits You

There are a wide range of BB cream products out there, and you must be sure you are well educated on the benefits and features of each one.  Although it is an all-in-one product, you must choose which cream to go with based on your skin type, age, desired features and the type of look you are going for.

Younger women should look for products with a thinner consistency and luminescent qualities. While they are not as moisturizing, the product absorbs better into younger skin.

Older women should look at full coverage products that offer anti-wrinkle and SPF protection. The products that feature anti-aging benefits usually have Vitamin C in them.

Do you want SPF protection? BB creams that contain SPF protection are generally thicker and add a scent.

What is your skin tone? Most BB creams come in several shades. Find one closest to your skin tone. Unfortunately if your skin tone is too light or too dark, standard shades of BB cream may not be a product for you.

Do you live in a place with changing seasons? You may have to switch up the brands throughout the year. For winter climate, look for a product with moisturizing features. For hot and humid climate, opt for a matte cream for a better look.

Do you have oily skin? Definitely be on the lookout for oil-free products. These are generally lighter and will reduce the look of an oily face throughout the day. If you are prone to breakouts and acne, an oil-free product will be beneficial to you. Generally if the product has a higher SPF, it may have more oil.

Why is BB Cream Better Than Foundation?

While both products are widely used, BB cream does offer some significant benefits:

  • All-in-one product. BB Cream combines a number of different products you are currently using into one product.
  • Light on skin. Foundation can look more noticeable on your face and give you a caked look. BB Creams give a more natural look.
  • Less breakouts. More acne prone people report more breakouts when using foundation as opposed to BB cream.
  • Save time. Using a BB cream will save you a lot of time. You no longer will have to spend time applying multiple products.
  • Save money. BB creams are affordable, and you will save money from not having to buy multiple products.
  • Get rid of dark circles. BB creams can be used to cover up dark circles under your eyes.
  • Age defying benefits.  BB creams have anti-wrinkle and anti-inflammatory benefits which foundation alone does not offer.
  • SPF protection. BB creams have SPF protection built in, so there’s no need to put on separate sun protection.

Review of Top 5 Korean BB Creams

It was very tough for us to slim down our favorites list to only 5 BB creams, because most of the ones we listed in the chart are excellent choices.  Nonetheless, below you’ll find our top 5 picks for overall best Korean BB cream and a more detailed review of each.  So here we go!

Missha M Perfect Cover

Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++As one of Missha’s bestselling products, we like the Perfect Cover because it is truly a remarkable product.  First of all, it is very versatile – it’s available in 2 different sizes and 5 different shades so there’s surely one for every skin tone, it’s got all the soothing and moisturizing properties of a lotion, it gives a natural look, it has superior sun protection (SPF 42 / PA+++), and it’s suitable for many different skin types.

What’s also great about this product is that it lasts long.  Compared with other BB creams, just a small dab goes a long way and covers all areas of the face.  On sale, it can be had for $10-15 so it’s definitely a good value product.

Missha products are known for being affordable yet well-made. The company was founded in 2000 and today manufactures a wide range of skincare products. In 2005 they entered the North American market with a store on Fifth Avenue in New York City, then went on to establish stores around the world including on China, Europe, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, and Mexico.

If you’re looking for an overall quality product priced reasonably, the Perfect Cover is the one! Don’t just take our word for it, there’s a reason why it has great reviews and is a bestseller!

SKIN79 Super+ Beblesh Balm Triple Function (Pink Label)

SKIN79 Super+ Beblesh Balm BB Cream Triple FunctionSKIN79 is another solid brand. It is rumored that SKIN79 launched the first BB cream on the Korean market. This Pink Label is one of the most popular and reviewed BB creams on Amazon, with over 600 reviews. It comes in only one shade, but we like it because it oxidizes really well to blend in with the skin. It is nice and light and wears on the skin more like a lotion than a foundation.

Coming in a cute packaging (which is always a plus), this cream covers blemishes really well and is great with oily, acne prone skin. It’s a full-fledged product, with moisturizing properties that help rejuvenate skin. The product comes in a 40g bottle and has SPF 25 / PA++ sun protection, which is great for those looking for a BB cream with average sun protection.

Besides, it can be bought at around $10 when on sale. So for such a complete product, it’s a great bargain and we recommend it!

Etude House Precious Mineral Bright Fit

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Bright FitEtude House is another long-time Korean cosmetics manufacturer. Its name was inspired by Frederic Chopin’s studies for the piano.  Originally launched in 1985, the company changed its name to Etude in 1997, and its products are typically catered to young women.

The Etude House Precious Mineral comes in 4 different shades and is one of the bigger BB creams with a volume of 60g. This cream does a great job at making the skin look natural. It’s light – doesn’t even look like you’re wearing anything – yet provides great coverage, and it gives a great shine without feeling as if you were wearing a highlighter.

For around $10 on sale it’s definitely a bargain, so we recommend it to people looking to buy a BB cream without breaking the bank. Other users have noted that the cream is great at minimizing wrinkles and making the skin look healthier.

The Face Shop Face It Power Perfection

The Face Shop Face It Power Perfection BB CreamThe Face Shop has been in the Korean cosmetics market since it was founded in 1962. It actually makes skin care, bath, body, and make-up products for both men and women. If you watch Korean dramas you will notice that men also wear BB creams! Interesting fact: The Face Shop is actually owned by LG Corporation, the electronics company.

First things first, you will notice that The Face Shop Face It Power Perfection comes in an attractive little bottle with a pump. It’s available in two different shades – light beige and natural beige – and two different sizes – 20ml and 40ml. It is a wrinkle improvement + sunscreen (SPF 37 / PA++) + whitening beauty blemish cream.

What’s great about this cream is the coverage. A little bit goes a long way and it does a good job. Plus it performs well on oily, acne-prone skin. Priced around $15 it’s another great choice.

BRTC Jasmine Water

BRTC Jasmine Water BB CreamBRTC (which stands for Bio Remedies Therapeutic Cosmetic) is a science-based Korean cosmetic brand that makes products for sensitive skin. They prize themselves on using natural ingredients such as lavender, cornflower, borage, chamomile, and extracts from things like brown rice and green tea in their products to soothe, oxidize, and moisturize skin. Although not as popular as SKIN79 or Missha, BRTC is getting the attention it deserves.

The Jasmine Water is a BB cream with one natural beige shade and SPF 30 / PA++ sun protection. Because it uses more natural ingredients, it’s priced at a premium compared to your average BB cream, but on sale you can purchase it for approximately $20 on Amazon.

If your concern is finding a BB cream for your ultra-sensitive skin and something with natural ingredients, for a slightly higher price, we definitely recommend the BRTC Jasmine Water. Bonus: it has a lovely scent!

Hiya I bought the SKIN79 Super+ Beblesh Balm Triple Function (orange Label) but i’ve noticed it dries out my skin. So which BB cream would you say is best for dry skin?

  2. june

Hi, I really want to purchase a BB Cream, but I have little to no idea which brand would be a good pick. I’ve used western versions before and haven’t liked them, I was hoping Korean ones would suit me better (skin tone wise and coverage wise). I’m very very oily, acne prone and around the NC 35 end of the spectrum. Do you have any general recommendations on which ones I should try out first?

    1. ClaraC Post author

Hi June, the Missha M Perfect is actually quite good for oily and acne prone skin. It lasts a good day without feeling too oily at the end of the day. I think the shade that would fit you is #27. Start with that and let me know what you think!

Hi Jessica, sorry for the late reply (work has been really busy!!). If you’re concerned about buying fake products but want to try out The Face Shop products, I would recommend going to The Face Shop official store. You can search for an official store on their website.

I’ve heard all the hype about Korean BB creams. My best friend is Korean and she’s always wearing diffrent brands but she’s really, really pale. I use Make Up For Ever HD foundation in the color 118 and Urban Decay Naked foundation in the color 3. I’ve used American brand BB creams before (Smashbox and Stila) and I’m between a light and a medium in Smashbox’s. What color and brand would you recomend for me?
